Mariners' Hernandez is AL Player of the Week

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez was named the American League Player of the Week for the second time in his career on Monday.

The right-hander had a 1.29 ERA in two starts last week against the Yankees and Rays, with 23 strikeouts and one walk in 14 innings.

Hernandez was 1-0 in the games. He failed to get a decision on Sunday despite striking out a career-high 15 batters against Tampa Bay in a 5-0 Mariners win.

He was the first Seattle pitcher since Randy Johnson on July 11, 1998, to have 15 strikeouts in a game.
