Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick to lead Real Madrid back to the semifinals of the Champions League with a 3-0 win over Wolfsburg on Tuesday.

Ronaldo netted goals in the 16th and 17th minutes, and then added a decisive third in the 77th as Madrid overturned a 2-0 first-leg loss to reach the semifinals for the sixth straight time with a 3-2 victory on aggregate.

The Portugal striker took his tournament tally to 16 goals this season, one shy of the Champions League record he set in the 2013-14 season. He is the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League with 93 goals.

Madrid hadn't reversed a first-leg loss in the Champions League since the 2001-02 season, when current coach Zinedine Zidane was still playing.
