Lumpkins scores 22 as American U pulls away late to beat Saint Francis (Pa.) 61-51

Stephen Lumpkins scored 22 points as American University pulled away in the final five minutes for a 61-51 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) in a nonconference game Saturday.

Tony Wroblicky scored three layups in a span of less than two minutes to help the Patriots (3-4) take a 55-51 lead with 2:11 to play. Daniel Munoz made four free throws in the final 49 seconds to help American stay in front and end a three-game losing streak.

Umar Shannon scored 20 points to lead the Red Flash (0-6), who lost their eighth in a row, dating to last season, and their 10th in a row on the road.

Mike Bersch added 14 points, making 4 of 8 from 3-point range for American, which shot 55 percent (11 of 20) in the second half to 30.8 percent (8 of 26) for Saint Francis.

Stephon Mosley had 15 points for the Red Flash.
