Long Island holds off Central Conn. State 72-67
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}C.J. Garner scored 17 points to lead Long Island University to a 72-67 victory over Central Connecticut State on Saturday.
Jamal Olasewere added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Blackbirds (11-4, 3-1 Northeast Conference), who extended their winning streak to five games and improved to 7-2 on the road.
Ken Horton hit six 3-pointers and scored 31 points to lead Central Connecticut State (9-6, 2-2), which had a five-game winning streak snapped.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Long Island trailed 59-53 before Olasewere and Garner scored four points each to key an 11-0 run for a 64-59 lead with 5:15 remaining.
The Blue Devils stayed close for the next 2 minutes, but Garner sealed it with two free throws with 9 seconds left.
David Hicks added 14 points for Long Island, which shot 68.2 percent from the field (15 of 22) in the second half.
