Lindegaard signs new four-year deal with United

Manchester United signed goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard to a new four-year contract Friday, locking up the Denmark international through the 2015-16 season.

Lindegaard, 28, joined United in January of last year from Aalesund in Norway. He made eight appearances in the English Premier League, but was sidelined by a knee injury after earning the starting role.

"I'm glad and proud that the manager has shown the confidence he has in me by giving me a new deal," Lindegaard said. "There is nowhere in the world I would rather be than right here.

"The competition for places is tough, as it should be in a club like this. It only makes us better as individuals and ... stronger as a team."

Lindegaard, capped five times for Denmark, will battle David De Gea for first- team appearances this season for United.
