Larry Fitzgerald is 'uncertain' about playing in 2017
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Arizona Cardinals have limped their way through the 2016 season, currently holding a 5-8-1 record after winning 13 games a year ago. They fell way below expectations despite having one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, and things aren't likely to get any better in 2017.
Quarterback Carson Palmer and wideout Larry Fitzgerald are both question marks for next season. Of the two, Fitzgerald is the more likely to step away from the game, and by the way he's talking it's a very real possibility.
"I wouldn't say that I'm contemplating it right now," Fitzgerald said, via the team's official site. "But I'm uncertain of what I am going to do moving forward. I still love the game, I love the competition, I love being around the guys and competing for a championship. That's a lot of fun for me. That's kind of where I am at right now. I'm really just focused on these last two games."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Fitzgerald, 33, is still under contract with the Cardinals in 2017, so the money and financial security are still there. And it's not about the fact that he leads the league with 98 catches, or that he's approaching his career-high of 109 in that department.
He wants to win and compete for a Super Bowl, which the Cardinals obviously aren't doing right now.
"I don't play for the personal accolades or catches or yards," Fitzgerald said. "Those are all wonderful footnotes at the end of the day, but ... you play to win. And when you are sitting at home, watching other teams compete for a championship that you so dearly want, it puts a bitter, bitter taste in your mouth."
