La Salle blows out Massachusetts 72-49
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Jerrell Williams scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead La Salle to a 72-49 win over Massachusetts on Sunday.
The Explorers (13-16, 5-9 Atlantic 10 Conference) shot 47.2 percent from the floor (17 of 36), including 7 of 15 from 3-point range (46.7 percent) in the opening half en route to a 48-25 halftime lead.
La Salle shot just 22.2 percent (8 of 36) in the second half, but used an 11-0 run to extend its lead to 71-40, the largest margin of the game.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Aaric Murray scored 16 points and Ruben Guillandeaux added 12 for the Explorers, who have won five of their last six meetings with UMass (15-12, 7-7).
Raphiael Putney led the Minutemen with nine points as UMass finished 17 of 57 from the field (29.8 percent), including 7 of 27 from 3-point range (25.9 percent).
Steve Weingarten grabbed 10 rebounds for La Salle, which posted a 57-33 rebounding edge.
