Jalen Jenkins has 5 blocks as George Mason pulls away from Rhode Island in final minutes 61-54
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Jalen Jenkins had nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in 17 minutes to help George Mason outlast Rhode Island 61-54 on Saturday.
The game was tied 54-54 when Marko Gujanicic made two free throws with 1:51 left to give George Mason (5-2) the lead for good. Bryon Allen made a layup with 39 seconds left to extend the lead to 58-54 and George Mason stopped Xavier Munford from scoring on the next possession to secure the win.
Sherrod Wright had 16 points and Gujanicic had 13 for George Mason.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Munford tied the game on a jumper at the 7:55 mark and neither team led by more than two until Mason pulled away late. Munford led Rhode Island (6-3) with 13 points on 5-of-18 shooting.
Though the game counts as a nonconference result, the teams will play an official Atlantic 10 contest on Jan. 18 at Rhode Island.
