Jack Mewhort's versatility gives injury-plagued Colts flexibility along offensive line
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The Colts might need Jack Mewhort's versatility sooner than they initially thought.
With left guard Donald Thomas already out for the season and starting center Khaled Holmes out, possibly until the start of the regular season, Mewhort gives the Colts plenty some flexibility. The rookie has played all five spots along the line during his football career.
Holmes wore a walking boot around his injured left ankle Saturday. The Colts remain hopeful he'll be back in the lineup Sept. 7 at Denver. But his absence is only part of the problem. Backup lineman Xavier Nixon is expected to miss at least three weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee Friday, and the Colts re-signed two offensive linemen — - center Thomas Austin and guard Marcus Hall — Friday night.
