Ivy schools attract standout recruits
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The top-ranked FCS recruits are going to ... the Ivy League?
It's one of the more overlooked scenarios on the FCS level, but the non- scholarship Ivy programs often attract commitments from players who turn down scholarship offers from FBS programs to both play Division I football and pursue an education at the highest level.
ESPN Recruiting Nation says this year's three highest-ranked high school seniors committed to FCS programs are Ivy-bound. Four-star defensive end Kurt Holuba (6-foot-4, 235) from Bergen Catholic in Oradell, N.J., leads the way as a Princeton recruit.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Holuba had offers from the likes of Florida State, Michigan State, Stanford and Wisconsin before making his college decision.
Harvard's recruiting class includes Larry Allen Jr., a 6-3, 270-pound offensive guard from the storied De La Salle program in Concord, Calif. He had offers from four Pac-12 programs.
Quarterback T.J. Linta of Hamden (Conn.) High has verbally committed to attend Brown. The 6-4, 221-pound pocket passer bypassed offers from Tulane and Virginia for an Ivy League future.
