Ireland captain Keane to miss qualifier vs. Germany
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Ireland captain Robbie Keane will miss Friday's World Cup qualifier against Germany with an Achilles injury, the Irish FA announced Thursday.
The 32-year-old Keane suffered the injury this week, but could return for the qualifier against the Faroe Islands on Tuesday. Keane is the all-time leading scorer for Ireland with 54 goals in 121 appearances.
John O'Shea will captain Ireland instead of Keane, a former Celtic, Liverpool, Tottenham player who is now with the Los Angeles Galaxy in MLS.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Keane is just the latest injury for Ireland, which will also be without Kevin Doyle, Richard Dunne, Sean St Ledger, James McClean, and Glenn Whelan against Germany.
Germany leads Group C in UEFA qualifying with six points, followed by Ireland and Sweden on three points apiece.
