Ikeda hangs on to win Japan Open

Chiba, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - Yuta Ikeda fired a final-round, 2-over 72 on Sunday, but he was able to hang on and win the Japan Open by one shot.

Ikeda finished the week at 10-under-par 270. The win is Ikeda's first of the season and his 12th overall on the Japan Golf Tour.

Beginning the day with the lead, Ikeda did not get off to a great start with four straight pars followed by a bogey on the par-4 fifth hole. Ikeda finished the front nine with four more pars to make the turn at 1-over.

Ikeda poured in back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12 to get into red numbers for the first time, but his second bogey two holes later on No. 14 dropped him back to even par. Ikeda tripped to a double-bogey on No. 16, but he was able to make a pair of pars on 17 and 18 to hold on for the win on the Umesato Course at Chiba Country Club.

Satoshi Kodaira (66) and Shingo Katayama (70) finished tied for second place at 9-under 271, while Prayad Marksaeng ended alone in fourth at minus-7 following a 2-over 72.
