Hurricanes place Skinner on IR
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Carolina Hurricanes placed forward Jeff Skinner on injured reserve Sunday, just over a week after sustaining a concussion.
The move is retroactive to last Sunday.
Skinner was felled in his club's exhibition finale, Oct. 4 against the Washington Capitals, on a hit delivered by defenseman Matt Niskanen.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The 2011 Calder Trophy winner collected a career-high 33 goals along with 54 points in 71 games last year, his fourth in the NHL.
Carolina recalled forward Zach Boychuk from Charlotte of the American Hockey League to fill the roster spot.
