HS hockey star accused of assault
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A 17-year-old player from a state-ranked New York high school hockey team faces a misdemeanor assault charge following an altercation with another player during practice, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported.
According to police in Greece, a suburb of Rochester, NY, junior defenseman Tyler Grimshaw was charged with third-degree assault in connection with an incident Feb. 6 at Lakeshore Hockey Arena.
The 14-year-old victim suffered a concussion, police told the Democrat and Chronicle.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Grimshaw is the No. 2 goal-scorer this season for the Greece Athena/Odyssey hockey team, ranked 13th in the state in Division I last week. He is tied for 13th in the 23-team league in penalty minutes.
He scored two goals in a 5-4 victory two days after the alleged assault.
Grimshaw, a second-team All-Star in the Section 5 High School Hockey League in 2011, was issued an appearance ticket after school officials notified police. He is due back in Greece Town Court on Feb. 22, the newspaper reported.
