Franchione gets new 5-year deal at Texas State, getting $400K annually starting in early 2014
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Texas State football coach Dennis Franchione has agreed to a five-year contract extension that pays him $400,000 annually starting in 2014.
The agreement announced Thursday says Franchione will remain at his current base salary of about $350,000 until February. Franchione took over the program in early 2011 and had a five-year deal.
He led Texas State to a 6-6 record as an independent. The Bobcats went 4-8 last season as Franchione guided the program through its transition to Division I. The Bobcats will join the Sun Belt Conference in 2014 after playing one season in the WAC.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Franchione coached the Bobcats from 1990-91 when the school was called Southwest Texas State and in Division II.
Franchione also formerly coached at New Mexico, TCU, Alabama and Texas A&M.
