Dwayne Schintzius, a first-round draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs in 1990, passed away on Sunday after a bout with leukemia. He was 43.
The Florida product was taken with the 24th overall pick, and spent one season with the Spurs -- 42 games in all -- before finishing his career in 1999 after playing for five more clubs.
Perhaps best known as the player standing underneath the basket when then- Orlando Magic center Shaquille O'Neal shattered the glass after a dunk, Schintzius ended up averaging 2.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest over 217 games for the Spurs, Kings, Nets, Pacers, Clippers and Celtics.

He had originally been diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia in 2009, but was pronounced cancer-free the following year thanks to a bone marrow transplant. However, the cancer returned early this year.
