Fluminense, Sao Paulo roll to opening weekend wins

Sao Paulo, Brazil (SportsNetwork.com) - Fluminense and Sao Paulo both started their respective Brasileiro campaigns with emphatic 3-0 victories over the weekend.

Fluminense cruised to its 3-0 win over promoted Figueirense on Saturday with first-half goals from Rafael Sobis and Fred before Nirley Fonseca's own goal in the 59th minute handed Fluminense its third tally of the match.

Sao Paulo also started its season in good form with a three-goal win at home against Botafogo.

Antonio Carlos and Douglas Pereira each scored in the first 22 minutes while Luis Fabiano's 56th-minute goal capped the scoring.

Defending champions Cruzeiro needed a late goal from Marcelo Moreno to notch a 2-1 win at Bahia after the home side leveled the match at 1-1 in the 80th minute with a penalty kick from Anderson Souza.

A sixth-minute goal from Charles Aranguiz was enough to lift Internacional to a 1-0 win over Vitoria, while promoted side Chapecoense earned a 0-0 home draw with Coritiba.

Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians also failed to produce a goal in a 0-0 draw, Drausio Gil's first-half goal was enough for Paranaense to claim a 1-0 victory against Gremio, Santos and Sport Recife traded second-half goals in a 1-1 draw, Palmeiras rallied for a 2-1 win at Criciuma thanks to goals from Leandro and Alan Kardec in the last 10 minutes, and Flamengo finished in a 0-0 draw with Goias.
