Fish in 5: American pulls out 5-setter to advance to 2nd round of US Open
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}American Mardy Fish advanced to the second round of the U.S. Open with a 6-0, 3-6, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic.
Fish is seeded 19th and is one of only seven Americans ranked in the top 100. He joins Taylor Dent and ninth-seeded Andy Roddick in the second round, with John Isner, James Blake, Sam Querrey and Donald Young still waiting for their first-round matches.
Fish lost to Roger Federer in the final of the Cincinnati Masters two weeks ago.
