FIFA VP says players' needs paramount in possible calendar switch of 2022 Qatar World Cup
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A top FIFA executive says the needs of players are most important in the possible switch of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar from summer to winter.
Jeffrey Webb, a FIFA vice president and president of the regional body CONCACAF, says: "If something is not good for the players, then it's not good for the game."
Webb says FIFA's executive committee will receive "analysis, research, surveys" at its Oct. 3-4 meeting.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}FIFA President Sepp Blatter says the board should agree in principle not to play the World Cup in June-July, and request widespread consultation on a better time to play in Qatar.
Webb acknowledged that some of his member countries' leagues would be affected by a winter World Cup. Major League Soccer would not.
