East Tennessee State stuns Charleston Southern 59-57 on Walton's last-second put back
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}John Walton's basket on a put back with 3.7 seconds left gave East Tennessee State a stunning 59-57 comeback victory over Charleston Southern Tuesday night.
ETSU (1-2) trailed by as many as 20 points, with Charleston Southern (1-3) holding a 35-15 lead late in the first half. But East Tennessee State, behind Lester Wilson, closed with a 16-3 run to make it 38-31 at halftime.
The freshman Wilson led all scorers with 26 points, 18 coming on his 6-for-12 3-point shooting. Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard (12 points) was the only other ETSU player in double figures.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}East Tennessee State played without suspended senior guards Sheldon Cooley and Marcus Dubose. But ETSU outscored Charleston Southern 34-11 during a 16-minute stretch overlapping both halves. Charleston Southern lost despite trailing for a total of just 3:09 during the game.
Arlon Harper led Charleston Southern with 13 points. Saah Nimley chipped in with 10 points.
