Dobyns leads by 3 at PGA Professional Championship
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Matt Dobyns posted his second straight 4-under 68 on Monday to grab a 3-stroke lead after two rounds of the PGA Professional National Championship.
Dobyns completed 36 holes at 8-under-par 136. He played his second round on the Bayonet Golf Course.
The event used two Monterey Peninsula-area courses, Bayonet and Black Horse for the first two rounds. The final 36 holes will be contested on the Bayonet course.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}First-round leader Mike Small stumbled to a 1-over 73 to slip into a share of second place at minus-5. The three-time champion was joined there by Paul Scaletta (72). Both players competed on the Bayonet course on Monday.
Dobyns got off to a quick start with birdies on the second and third. He stumbled to a bogey on the par-3 sixth, then parred his next three holes.
Around the turn, Dobyns erased that mistake with a birdie on the par-5 10th. He closed his round with birdies on the 16th and 18th to finish three clear of the field.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Kelly Mitchum (71), Brian Cairns (69), Stuart Smith (69) and Jim Estes (72) share fourth place at 4-under-par 140. Bob Sowards (71) is one stroke further back at minus-3.
Corey Prugh (72), Darrell Kestner (73) and Alan Morin (73) are tied for ninth at 2-under-par 142.
Last year's winner David Hutsell stumbled to a 2-over 74 in round two to fall into a tie for 32nd at 2-over-par 146.
