Dickey tweets his own deal: Mets trade NL Cy Young winner to Blue Jays in 7-player swap

Dickey and Mets general manager Sandy Alderson can agree on one thing _ they would prefer to have closure before opening day. The Cy Young Award winner can become a free agent after the 2013 season and says he won't negotiate once it starts, so the Mets probably have to sign him to an extension or trade him to get the best return. The New York Mets have traded NL Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays in a seven-player deal.

The teams announced the trade Monday after Dickey and the Blue Jays agreed to a new contract that added two years to his existing deal.

Toronto acquired the 38-year-old knuckleballer and catchers Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas. The Mets got top catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud and catcher John Buck, plus minor league right-hander Noah Syndergaard and outfielder Wuilmer Becerra.

Dickey posted a note on Twitter thanking Mets fans for their support and saying he was "looking forward to a new chapter with the Jays."
