Cruzeiro routs Figueirense for fifth straight win

Belo Horizonte, Brazil (SportsNetwork.com) - Cruzeiro widened its lead atop the Brasileiro standings to five points on Saturday after a comfortable 5-0 thrashing of Figueirense at the Estadio Governador.

The defending champions have been on a roll in recent weeks, having won five consecutive matches in league play since a 1-0 defeat to Corinthians back on May 28.

Luis Silva opened the scoring for Cruzeiro in the 41st minute with a penalty kick conversion and Marquinhos made it 2-0 two minutes into the second half.

Two minutes later Dede found the back of the net and Ricardo Goulart widened the lead to 4-0 with a goal 18 minutes from time. Pelentier Dagoberto capped the rout with a goal in the 79th minute to hand all three points to the defending champions.

Also on Saturday in the Brazilian top flight, Rildo, Gabriel and Diego Nogueira all scored to hand Santos a 3-0 victory over Chapecoense, while Caio scored a double and Ayrton added a third goal for Vitoria in a 3-1 result over Criciuma.

In Saturday's final fixture, Wellington Silva netted the only goal in the 66th minute to lift Internacional to a 1-0 win over Bahia.

On Sunday, Fluminense cruised to a 3-0 rout of Atletico PR behind goals from Jean, Dario Conca and Cicero, while goals from Jose Guerrero and Petros propelled Corinthians to a 2-0 result over Palmeiras.

Amaral and Menezes Bruno helped Goias claim a 2-1 win against Sao Paulo, Sport Recife topped Atletico Mineiro by a 2-1 score line, and Barbosa Felisbino netted the only goal of the contest to help Flamengo earn a 1-0 victory against Botafogo.

Sunday's final fixture saw Hernan Barcos score twice for Germio, but Alex had the last laugh, scoring in the 90th minute to hand all three points to Coritiba in a 3-2 result.
