Crew signs forward Schoenfeld

The Columbus Crew acquired Aaron Schoenfeld from the Montreal Impact in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft on Friday and has signed the forward to a contract.

The 21-year-old Schoenfeld was originally drafted in the second round of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft from East Tennessee State University by Montreal.

"Aaron is a young talented forward with a lot of potential," Crew coach Robert Warzycha said. "He has a good touch and a good nose for the goal. He showed us that nothing is going to distract him from achieving his goals."

Schoenfeld finished college with 20 goals and 10 assists in 72 games.

"I'm really excited for the opportunity," Schoenfeld said. "I found a fit here with Columbus. I enjoy the team and the city and I think it is going to be a great season."

To make room for Schoenfeld on the roster, Crew placed defender Rich Balchan on the disabled list. Per club and league policy no further terms of the deal were disclosed.
