Clayton leads No. 24 Florida St. past Va. Tech
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Chasity Clayton scored 16 points to lead No. 24 Florida State to a 79-48 victory over Virginia Tech on Thursday night in the ACC opener for both teams.
Clayton, a Virginia native, was 6 for 10 from the floor as the Seminoles (13-3, 1-0) shot 54.4 percent and won their fourth straight since a 93-62 loss at then-No. 1 Connecticut on Dec. 21. Alexa Deluzio added 15 points.
Florida State (13-3, 1-0) trailed just once after the Hokies' Brittany Gordon scored the opening basket for a 2-0 lead. The Seminoles promptly went on a 14-2 run and never trailed again. They opened their lead to 21 in the first half and 32 in the second half.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Monet Tellier scored 11 points to lead Virginia Tech (9-6, 0-1), which missed 12 straight shots after Gordon's basket. The Hokies shot just 28 percent from the floor in the first half and 35.2 percent for the game.
