Bryans capture fifth U.S. Open doubles title
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Flushing Meadows, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Bob and Mike Bryan captured their fifth U.S. Open men's doubles title Sunday with a straight-set victory over the Spanish tandem of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez.
The Bryan twins earned a 6-3, 6-4 triumph in the final, claiming their 16th career Grand Slam championship and 100th overall doubles crown. They hadn't won a major title this year entering the fortnight at Flushing Meadows, but now have collected at least one Grand Slam for the 10th year in a row.
One break in each set proved to be the difference on Sunday. The Bryans were 2-for-7 on break chances, while the Spaniards failed to convert either of their two opportunities.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The 36-year-old Americans hadn't won a Grand Slam title since Wimbledon in 2013 and avenged a loss to Granollers and Lopez in this year's French Open quarterfinals. Their last U.S. Open crown came two years ago.
