Braves OF Markakis undergoes surgery
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Atlanta Braves outfielder Nick Markakis underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to mend a bulging disk in his neck.
Markakis, who signed a four-year contract for a reported $44 million on Dec. 5, is expected to resume training in eight weeks and should be ready for spring training.
The 31-year-old won his second Gold Glove award in 2014 and batted .276 with 14 home runs and 50 RBI over 155 games for the AL East champion Baltimore Orioles.
