{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick agreed to a contract extension on Friday.
The team announced the deal on its Twitter account.
The deal is for six years and $59 million with $24 million in guaranteed money, according to a report by ESPN.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Fitzpatrick, who signed with Buffalo in 2009 as a backup to quarterback Trent Edwards, has led the Bills to a 4-2 record this season. They are just a game behind the New England Patriots for first place in the AFC East.
A seventh-round draft pick out of Harvard in 2005, Fitzpatrick has a 16-25-1 career record, including a 12-15 mark as the Bills' quarterback.
Buffalo is averaging 31.3 points and 378.5 yards a game with Fitzpatrick at the helm this season -- third- and 10th-best in the NFL, respectively. His 12 touchdown passes are tied for fifth in the league.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Through six games, Fitzpatrick has thrown for 1,477 yards this season with six interceptions while completing 66.3 percent of his pass attempts.
He is the first Buffalo quarterback to get a contract extension since the Bills gave Doug Flutie a two-year extension in 1999.
