Barden's 19 leads hot-shooting Northern Colorado past Prairie View A&M 87-70
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Derrick Barden matched a season-high with 19 points and Northern Colorado broke away with an emphatic run early in the second half to best Prairie View A&M 87-70 on Sunday to conclude the Colorado State Challenge.
The contest was close into the second half until the Bears (4-2) launched a 20-5 run spanning six minutes that increased their lead from 40-38 to 60-43 and they stayed out of reach from there.
Barden scored six of his 19 points during the breakout on three slams. Dominique Lee added a dunk and a 3-pointer and Tate Unruh hit his third of four 3s during the pivotal run. Unruh and Tevin Svihover finished with 16 points each, Lee had 13 and Tim Huskisson 11.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Prairie View (2-6) led by as many as 11 early when Montrael Scott hit a 3-pointer and was fouled. Scott finished with 12 points, Louis Munks a season-high 20.
