5 players in running as Europe captain Paul McGinley prepares to announce Ryder Cup wild cards
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Europe captain Paul McGinley will make his three wild-card picks for the Ryder Cup on Tuesday, with five players seemingly in contention for a late call-up.
The three big names to miss out on automatic selection were Englishmen Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and Ian Poulter — stalwarts for Europe over the last decade and stars of the "Miracle in Medinah" in 2012.
Stephen Gallacher of Scotland is pushing hard for a wild card after coming up just short in his attempt to snatch the final automatic qualifying place, finishing third in the Italian Open on Sunday when a top-two spot would have seen him make the team.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Francesco Molinari of Italy is the outsider of the five.
The Europe team will face the United States at Gleneagles this month.
