Fox News has obtained the resignation letters that Rep. Mark Souder, R-Ind., handed in to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels (R) on Thursday. Souder announced Tuesday that he would resign this week after conducting an affair with a member of his staff.
With Souder’s resignation…and including the swearing-in today of Rep. Mark Critz, D-Pa., the House now has 431 members. The vacancies will be for the seats once held by Reps. Neil Abercrombie, D-Hawaii, Nathan Deal, R-Ga., Eric Massa, R-N.Y., and Souder. There are 255 Democrats and 176 Republicans.
