North Carolina Rep. Coble Hospitalized With Respiratory Illness

Rep. Howard Coble has been hospitalized in Washington with a respiratory illness and is expected to miss votes this week.

The North Carolina Republican's office said Tuesday that Coble had been admitted to George Washington University Hospital in Washington after a cold Coble had been fighting seemed to worsen on Monday. The 80-year-old Coble was first elected in 1984.

Coble chief of staff Ed McDonald says the congressman visited his attending physician on Tuesday. The doctor decided to send him to the hospital for observation.

Coble's office says he has low sodium levels as a result of his respiratory illness and could be in the hospital for four or five days.
