Former President Carter has liver surgery, expected to make ‘full recovery’

Former President Jimmy Carter underwent elective surgery on his liver and is expected to make a full recovery, the Carter Center said Monday.

The 90-year-old former Democratic president had the procedure performed at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

According to his office, the surgery was conducted to "remove a small mass in his liver."

"His operation proceeded without issues, and the prognosis is excellent for a full recovery," the Carter Center said.
