The Senate returns from its August recess Monday at 2:30 p.m. ET. They’ll meet for morning business then hold debate and a vote for the nomination of Jane Stranch to be a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals judge.
The Senate Impeachment Trial Committee will hold a hearing at 8:00 a.m. ET on the impeachment trial of Judge G. Thomas Porteous. Porteous, a district court judge appointed by President Clinton, is accused of “repeatedly” committing perjury throughout the course of a bankruptcy proceeding and taking cash and other gifts from lawyers that appeared before him in court.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner addresses the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute at 9:10 a.m. ET. He’ll be continuing to sell the administration’s economic plan to the public and urge Congress to pass a pending small business bill and extend the Bush tax cuts for the middle class.
