How much did you spend on AAU basketball this weekend?
Parents across the country are dealing with sticker shock after a weekend spent digesting admission prices at AAU tournaments from Pittsburgh to Milwaukee.
It’s not like Screencaps hasn’t been beating on this drum for the last couple of years. Prices keep going up. Hotels keep going up. Gas is up. And now we’ve reached the point where AAU admission is more than attending NBA playoff games.
In Manheim, PA if mom and dad wanted to go watch their son play 14U basketball, they were facing $204 for a weekend of admission and parking. Yes, parking. We’re talking 10 per day.
IS THIS COLLEGE BASEBALL TANK SHOT REALLY THAT IMPRESSIVE?
But it was even more expensive to park in Houston where one mother told me that it was $105 to park at NRG Stadium. The mother told me it was cheaper to purchase a weekend admission ticket than it was to park for the weekend.
Remember, it’s not just AAU basketball where the admission price continues to climb. There are D-III high school baseball leagues that started charging $8 admission price this season.
I need you guys to be might ears and eyes out there for admission prices at youth sporting events. Let me know what you’re paying, parking shenanigans, etc.

Ivanka Trump's beauty stuns an old Screencaps business partner
I've been meaning to tell you guys the story of how my buddy AC Bellino --- I appeared on his radio show for years; he's also my Two-Club Invitational business partner --- called me Masters weekend to say he was just leaving a West Palm restaurant where he was having dinner in the bar area. When he goes to Florida, AC throws around a little bit of money.
He likes to wear white seersucker shirts and sunglasses like he's about to be picked as an extra in a Pitbull music video. You get the idea.

There he is enjoying a meal, maybe a drink, and soaking in the high-end Florida lifestyle when Ivanka and a group of girlfriends came in and sat at the table directly next to him. Secret Service were with the group. Bellino prides himself on knowing weapons and guys who are packing. The boys were packing plenty of heat and on high-alert, Bellino told me.
Great story, now tell me if she's as beautiful as I'm led to believe on Instagram.

She's even more beautiful in person, he says. Bellino isn't some dork who has struggled in the female department. The guy has dated beautiful women and typically prefers Colombian women. He has very high standards.
And yet there he was literally stuttering to me through the phone after being in the same room as Ivanka.
It's been a huge month for Ivanka. Between the UFC 327 appearance and her Masters weekend where she infuriated the fat, ugly, purple hairs by looking amazing at a bridal shower for Bettina Anderson, who is marrying Donald Trump Jr., there was also a huge appearance on "The Diary of a CEO" podcast that has done 1.3 million views in 11 days.
This has to be so soul-crushing to the angry, miserable, aging quickly super LIBS who've made it their life's work to destroy this woman. Based on the number of public appearances over the past three months, it just feels like Ivanka is on the verge of some sort of project.
It's just a matter of time before the purples turn their attention back to their arch-enemy. Just watch.

You're damn right I'm having FUN watching MY Reds
– Jim T. in San Diego emails:
What they hey ho just happened? They went into Minneapolis and SWEPT a good Twins team? In extra innings to take Game 3? I've never seen a team so able to cooly storm back in the 8th, 9th and extra innings like this. From the A.P. game story: " The NL Central-leading Reds are 11-0 in games decided by three or fewer runs, including 6-0 in one-run games."
I'm telling you, it's the skip having those players believing that they're NEVER out of a game! Francona is playing chess while the other managers are still figuring out checkers ...
Kinsey:
My phone started ringing when TJ Friedl ripped that fastball right down the middle of the plate to deep right center on a rope for a go-ahead three-run double.
It was my dad wondering if I just saw what happened.
You're damn right I did. I was glued to that game. If you're missing the Reds in the 9th inning right now, you're missing pure cinema. Then, in extra innings, Elly De La Cruz caused the Twins to crumble on defense and the Reds fired up the jet to Tampa with a series sweep.
You know what's great besides winning 14 games by April 20? The Reds have characters I can actually invest my time in. Between Tito Francona, Suarez, Elly and Sal Stewart, I have storylines. Names I recognize. That wasn't happening 18 months ago. They may play .400 ball from here on out, but at least for this month, I can't stop watching.
A couple of observations on a Monday morning
– Will from Mississippi emails:
First, on the 12U baseball player and his bat throw that went viral last week. My brother's two sons play baseball. One is a HS senior that is going to sign to play Juco ball this week and a 2nd grader that plays semi-travel ball. I sent the video to him and asked what would happen if one of them pulled that stunt. His reply was "it wouldn't end well". I pretty much knew the answer when I asked the question. I'd bet it wouldn't end well if one of your players pulled a stunt like that.
Second, Speaking of your coaching, you may want to get a copy of Ron Polk's "Baseball Playbook". Coach Polk was the longtime coach at Mississippi State who along with Skip Bertman made SEC baseball what it is today. It's a really good book about baseball fundamentals including drills.
Third, In a story you wrote a couple of weeks ago about Eva Longoria, you referenced the AARP as being for old people. That's wrong. They start sending recruitment information to you around the time you turn 50. And it should be the AALRP, American Association of Liberal Retired Persons. The politics of this organization leans heavily lib.
Fourth, Thanks for the recommendation for "Trust Me, The False Prophet" on Netflix. That some F#%ked up shite. Hard to believe that happens or maybe not. I recommended it to my college age kids and my daugther said that I need to watch "Keep Sweet Pray and Obey" on Netflix which is also about the FLDS under Warren Jeffs before the events in "Trust Me".
Thanks for bringing us the best daily column in America. Looking forward to TNML cranking up even though I don't mow. The HOA does it for the duplex neighborhood that I live in.
Kinsey:
- I watched "Keep Sweet Pray & Obey" Sunday morning when it popped up as a recommendation. It would've been better to start there and then work my way into "Trust Me."
- Based on those two documentaries, there appears no way to stop the FLDS from some false prophet coming along and doing exactly what Jeffs and Bateman pulled off. As cut off from the outside world as these people are, this isn't the end of such evil.
Mike T. is doing photos right
This is a great photo from Mike T. It's like he knew I'd be asking for the change. Spoiler: He didn't.
What you'll notice here is that Mike T. sent a horizontal photo, which will be key moving forward. Guys, I need your photos to be horizontal so they can be cropped properly. Look at how this photo fits perfectly. Great color. Great lighting.
I know you're used to taking vertical photos.
To make my life easier, please try to send horizontal photos.

Mike T. in Idaho has officially settled into the quiet life back home after a winter of European travel followed by a trip to Denver. The Ts are back to gardening, mowing and sucking down drinks in their iconic red Solo cups. (Mike T. in Idaho)
From stripes to snow in Denver
– Scot O. reports:
Taking a page from Bill ‘Husker Hophead’—Colorado edition in full effect. First stripes of the year are down, Yellowjackets deployed, and the lab is on security detail (strong presence, questionable output). Day 2 update: stripes have entered the transfer portal.
GBR! so that it keeps me in good standing with Husker Nation.
Also, shoutout to T’s whose pics I enjoyed during their run through of Europe. The T’s had the good dining dialed in while in Europe, good food, simple plates, market-style stops—I’m all ears on where they dined while in Denver. You can see the T's timed their exit from Denver just right on the way back to Idaho… Botanical Gardens were showing off right before winter showed up uninvited.
All in all after the snow it was a standout weekend here in Denver sports. You had Nathan MacKinnon leading the Avalanche spotlight, Nikola Jokić running the show at Ball Arena, Lionel Messi continuing to draw global attention with Inter Miami and Shohei Ohtani in the mix with the Dodgers just up the road at Coors Field. Hard to beat that kind of crossover weekend anywhere.

Yes, I cut this column short. Right now, we're working in a brand new content management system and my main goal is to get this post live with as few issues as possible. Again, we will build off of today. We'll take a look at what worked, what didn't and we'll keep getting better.
Let's go have a great day.
