Nov. 13, 2008: Florida Keys Turtle Hospital staff veterinarian Douglas Mader finishes sewing sutures after amputating the right front flipper of an endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtle in Marathon, Fla. The reptile was attacked by wild dogs while it was nesting on a Virgin Islands' beach. Austrian veterinarian Judith Drack is assisting. (Reuters )

April 3, 2008: A 19-year-old mandril monkey named Shiroko is anaesthetized by a veterinarian before undergoing dental treatment at the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem. The dental procedure, performed by a dentist who usually treats humans, lasted about two hours. Shiroko was anaesthetized before having two broken teeth pulled, a cavity filled and receiving a dental cleaning. (Reuters )
March 5, 2008: Petra the koala receives her medication after an operation at Sydney Wildlife World. Petra had a CT scan and was diagnosed with a fungal disease called Cryptococcus, which is a common disease found in the nasal cavity of some koalas and is caused by a fungus associated with a particular eucalyptus trees.
