A story linking publicist Rachel Uchitel to golf great Tiger Woods appeared in the National Enquirer, but did not gain serious national attention until Woods ran his Escalade into a fire hydrant and a tree on a neighbor's property around 2:25 am three days later.  Woods was found lying bloody in the street, and reports have his wife Elin either using a golf club to free him from his car, chasing Woods with the club and swinging it at the car after an alleged dispute over the Enquirer's Uchitel/Woods story, or both. In a statement days after the accident, Tiger Woods called his wife "heroic" for rescuing him from his Cadillac, and denied "the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors," but did not address any of them specifically.  (AP) (AP2009)
