Five people were injured in a crash on the final lap of a Caribbean Motor Racing Championships event at the Wallerfield International Raceway in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.

The incident began when a Mazda RX-7 spun out on the final lap. For whatever reason, the car behind it didn’t event turn into the corner and plowed over the tire barrier, leaping several feet into the air before crashing into the bottom of a spectator area.

Four fans and the driver were all taken to nearby health facilities, with one of the spectators requiring several pints of blood. One of the other spectators was discharged within a day.

All of the victims were alert and conscious. The incident is being investigated although reports indicate that all necessary safety measures had been put in place.
