2014 Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa Romeo has unveiled the production version of the car that will spearhead its return to the United States market later this year, the 4C. The two-door, two-seat, mid-engine coupe is built on a lightweight carbon-fiber chassis wrapped in aluminum bodywork that incorporates styling cues from classic Alfas into a modern form. Shorter in length than an Audi TT, the 4C will be powered by a 1750cc turbocharged four-cylinder engine connected to a dual-clutch automatic transmission. A DNA selector will offer drivers four drive modes that include Natural, All Weather, Dynamic and Race. Exact weight and power output have not been revealed, but Alfa Romeo promises a power to weight ratio of 4 hp/kg, which would position the 4C in the upper echelon of sports cars. (Alfa Romeo)

Pricing has not yet been revealed, but Automotive News reports that it could cost as much as $80,000 and only 1,000 will be available in the U.S. each year. Additional Alfa Romeo models are expected to follow it into showrooms in 2015. The 4C makes its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. (Alfa Romeo)
