A sledding accident in suburban Cleveland has left a 9-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries.

Police in North Ridgeville say the boy was hit by a car Tuesday afternoon when his sled went into a street at the bottom of a popular sledding hill.

Officers say the boy became trapped underneath the vehicle.

Media reports say he was flown to a Cleveland hospital, where he was in critical condition Wednesday.

A neighbor tells WEWS-TV in Cleveland that the boy's family was at home cooking dinner when the accident happened.

Much of Cleveland and northern Ohio has had a mild winter up until this week, when several inches of snow and low temperatures moved into the region along Lake Erie.
