A 22-year-old man is facing drug charges after police say he tried to get rid of hundreds of bags of heroin while fleeing from officers in northern Delaware.

Elsmere police say officers tried to stop a Chevrolet Impala on Tuesday after a traffic violation. That's when police say Tyree Robinson got out of the car and ran.

Lt. Gregg Shelton says as Robinson ran away he threw items under a parked car. Shelton says officers later found those items and discovered 262 bags of heroin with a total weight of about 3.93 grams.

Robinson, of Elsmere, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. He was released on $10,000 secured bail.
