An Arkansas man last week planned a fake knife attack he said 'got out of hands very fast' so he could impress a woman he was courting at the time, police said.
KAIT8.com reported that Jeffery Tyler Siegel and the woman were walking from a lookout pavilion last Saturday night when they were confronted by a man dressed in black and carrying a large knife.
The man reportedly said, "You go, but your girlfriend stays."
The woman didn’t listen and took off running. Siegel, 26, stayed behind and came to blows with the would-be attacker, the report said. Siegel claimed the attacker eventually fled, but not before he sustained two knife wounds to the chest and wrist, the report said.
The woman called police. They responded by sending several officers and a K9 unit to the area. They sealed off a nearby park and combed the woods near Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center, located in Jonesboro, which is near the Northeast corner of the state.
The search came up empty. Police interviewed the woman who told them that at the time of the attack, she thought something was off, and Siegel had been texting moments before the assault, the KAIT8.com report said. Police later called Siegel for an interview and he appeared “very nervous.”
Police told Siegel that they would not file charges if he would just tell the truth, and he finally confessed that he contacted a friend before the attack, the report said. He told police that he scraped himself to make it look like an injury, the report said. He said he thought 'something like this' would help his chances with the woman, the report said.
Siegel was not charged and the case is considered closed.
KAIT8.com contacted the woman who seemed less than impressed with Siegel's heroism, calling what he did "not very heroic."
