An Ohio man who had eluded authorities after fatally bludgeoning his girlfriend confessed to the crime to a New York City priest.

The New York Post reports Jonathan Smith, 48, told the clergyman at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi on West 31st Street in Manhattan, a law enforcement source told the newspaper.

“Someone is dead, and I feel really bad about it,” Smith said.

The priest whom Smith approached contacted the NYPD’s Midtown South precinct house and detectives later took Smith’s formal confession.

“He says, ‘I killed my girlfriend in Columbus, Ohio,’” a law-enforcement source told The Post.
