Giant exoskeleton mimics your every move

While it may not be as robust as the Amplified Mobility Platform Suits that tore through Pandora in the movie “Avatar,” a new robotic exoskeleton is strong enough to handle a light jog and includes hands that are nimble enough to pick up an egg without cracking it.

Developed by Sagawa Electronics, the Powered Jacket MK3 boasts an aluminum and carbon fiber frame that weighs only 55 pounds, despite being almost seven-and-a-half-feet tall. After strapping themselves into the motorized joints, users simply move to activate the suit’s corresponding limbs that mimic the wearer’s every move. Imagine a glorified stilt puppet and you get the picture.

Sagawa says it will create up to five suits with price tags fetching around $123,000, but don’t count on slipping on down to your local exoskeleton mega store and just picking one up anytime soon. As of now, the Powered Jacket MK3 is more of a novelty project.

However, if you find yourself in Japan later this month, stop by the Wonder Festival 2013, where Sagawa plans to showcase the suit. The company has even created a comic to help further develop MK3′s origin story. Check out this video as “Scarface Santaro” gives a demo of the exoskeleton.
