The Panthers released starting cornerback Bene Benwikere on Friday, which seems like a drastic move after one bad week. It was a really bad week, however, as Benwikere was primarily the one covering Julio Jones last Sunday, who torched Carolina for a ridiculous 300 yards receiving in a Falcons win.
Benwikere, 25, was a fifth round pick in 2014. He told the Charlotte Observer that he was looking forward to getting back out there in Week 5, but now he'll have to do so as a member of another team.
"I'm definitely eager to get back on the field, not only to show outside people. Really to show my teammates and coaches just what I can do," Benwikere said. "It's a new week. They say in the secondary you have to put everything behind you and have a short memory. So that's what I'm going to do."
