Rose rolls to Scottish Open title

Aberdeen, Scotland (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Rose fired a 6-under 65 in Sunday's final round and cruised to a 2-stroke win at the Scottish Open.

Rose finished his seventh European Tour victory at 16-under-par 268.

"This is my first professional win in Scotland so it means a lot," Rose stated. "This is a great tournament, there's definitely something special about playing golf up here and the golfing crowd are so knowledgeable and I've really got to love this golf course."

Kristoffer Broberg carded a 5-under 66 to take second place at minus-14. He did gain one of three available spots in next week's Open Championship.

Marc Warren, who shared the third-round lead with Rose, managed a 1-under 70 in the final round and ended alone in third at 11-under-par 273.

Stephen Gallacher (63), Matteo Manassero (65), Shane Lowry (66) and Tyrrell Hatton (68) shared fourth place at minus-10. Robert Karlsson (66), Rickie Fowler (65) and Scott Jamieson (64) were one back of them at 9-under 275.

Hatton and Jamieson gained the other two spots that were available for next week's Open Championship.

Last year's winner Phil Mickelson fired a 65 in the final round and rallied for a share of 11th place at 8-under 276.

Rose, who won his last start on the PGA Tour two weeks, made par at the first and followed with a 14-foot birdie putt on No. 2. He made it two in row with a long birdie effort on the third.

The Englishman birdied the fifth from just over 20 feet out. He again made it two in a row with a 2-putt birdie on the sixth. Rose birdied the ninth to move to 15-under, where he was four strokes clear of the field.

Rose played his third to the par-5 12th within four feet and he converted that for birdie. With a big lead, Rose played safe golf the rest of the way and closed with six pars in a row to seal the win.

"It was exactly the start I was looking for, and 16 was the key. I looked at the leaderboard and I was only two ahead and felt I was bound to make bogey there. Getting it up-and-down was the key to the win," said Rose. "I couldn't have scripted it better. I've never won two in a row and I've certainly never won three in a row so I'm in uncharted territory."

Broberg parred the first three before collecting birdies at the fourth and sixth. He made the turn at 12-under thanks to a birdie on the ninth.

The Swede, who was looking for his first tour win, stumbled to a bogey on the 11th, but he bounced right back with a birdie on the 12th.

Broberg birdied the 14th to move to 13-under. He later stuffed his tee shot inside three feet at the 17th. Broberg kicked that in for birdie to get within two of Rose, but he parred the last to end there.

NOTES: Rose earned 627,020 euros for the win ... This was his first win in Europe since the 2007 Volvo Masters ... The tour heads to England next week for the Open Championship, where Mickelson will defend his crown.
