The Baltimore Orioles placed outfielder Nolan Reimold on the 15-day disabled list on Friday and made a handful of other moves before the team begins a three-game set with the Texas Rangers.

The Orioles decided to designate outfielder Chris Dickerson for assignment, and filled the two roster spots by purchasing the contract of Cuban outfielder Henry Urrutia and recalling infielder Danny Valencia from Triple-A Norfolk.

Reimold has played in 40 games and hit .195 this season but inflammation in his cervical spine will force the outfielder to undergo corrective surgery on Tuesday. His recovery timetable is not immediately known

The 29-year-old has had a rough go over the past two seasons, missing most of the 2012 campaign after requiring neck surgery last June.

Urrutia represented the Orioles in the All-Star Futures Game this past Sunday after combining to hit .365 with 20 doubles and seven homers over 67 games at Double-A Bowie and Norfolk this season.

Valencia will make his second stint with the Orioles this season. He recorded a .230 batting average with four homers and eight RBI in 21 prior games with the club.

The Orioles have 10 days to trade, release or hope Dickerson clears waivers. The 31-year-old played in 46 games with the club this season and recorded a .245 batting average with four homers and 13 RBI.
