Sebastian Saavedra says he was surprised "big time" by the $30,000 fine he got from IndyCar for his obscene gesture.

Saavedra said Friday that he knew he would get a penalty for flashing both of his middle fingers at Marco Andretti after the two made contact last weekend in Detroit. But Saavedra was mad when he heard the amount of the fine.

IndyCar placed Sebastien Bourdais on probation for the rest of the year for comments he made toward series officials on pit road last weekend. Bourdais' only response about his penalty Friday was to "ask race control" as he walked off after his qualifying run.

Will Power, on probation for throwing his gloves at Bourdais following an accident in Detroit, still thinks it's good to show emotion.
