San Jose, CA – The San Jose Sharks provided additional depth up front to the New York Rangers on Tuesday, sending forward Ryane Clowe to Manhattan in a trade.
Heading to the Bay Area will be two 2013 draft choices, the Rangers' second- round pick and a third-round selection from Florida that had been previously acquired by the Rangers, along with a conditional second-round choice in 2014.
That conditional pick remains as is if Clowe re-signs with New York or the Rangers win two playoff series. If neither condition is satisfied, the pick becomes a fifth-rounder.
Clowe -- who waived his no-trade clause to facilitate the deal -- has been snakebitten this year, failing to record a single goal in 28 games but picking up 11 assists and 79 penalty minutes.
In 423 NHL appearances since 2005, all with San Jose, Clowe has totaled 101 goals and 271 points with 567 PIM.
The 30-year-old native of Newfoundland is two years removed from setting career highs in goals (24) and points (62).
"Ryane is a tremendously respected player and teammate, and an individual of outstanding character," said Sharks general manager Doug Wilson. "These deals involving players who have spent a substantial amount of time in and contributed much to San Jose are difficult, but it's also important for us to get value for a player who is set to be an unrestricted free agent. We want to wish Ryane and his family the best in the future and thank them for everything they have done for the Sharks organization and the San Jose community."
Heading into Tuesday's action, the Rangers are tied with the rival Islanders for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
