Key Biscayne, FL – Two-time reigning Miami champ Novak Djokovic was upended in straight sets in Tuesday's fourth round, while former champion and 2012 runner-up Andy Murray advanced comfortably at the Sony Open, an ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
The Australian Open champion Djokovic, who titled here in 2007 and was the Miami runner-up to Murray in 2009, was ousted by 15th-seeded German Tommy Haas in 1 hour, 20 minutes on Day 7 of this 12-day event.
Djokovic saved just 5-of-9 break point opportunities, allowing Haas to move into the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-4 decision.
The 15th-seeded Haas will next face Giles Simon in the next round after the 11th-seeded Frenchman earned a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, triumph over seventh-seeded Serb Janko Tipsarevic.
Meanwhile, the second-seeded U.S. Open champion Murray handled 16th-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi 6-2, 6-4 to advance to a quarterfinal matchup with ninth-seeded Marin Cilic, who outlasted sixth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Third-seeded David Ferrer drubbed 13th-seeded rising Japanese Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-2 and fourth-seeded former Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych dismantled 17th-seeded American Sam Querrey 6-1, 6-1 in a mere 51 minutes at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park. The gritty Spaniard Ferrer will meet Austrian veteran Jurgen Melzer in the quarters, while the 2010 Miami runner-up Berdych of the Czech Republic will encounter Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
An eighth-seeded Gasquet moved on by coming from behind to beat 10th-seeded Spaniard Nicolas Almagro 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), while another fourth- rounder saw Melzer overcome Spaniard Albert Ramos 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The winner of this $4.169 million event will pocket $719,160.
